The recently concluded 90th Academy Awards might have disappointed it’s producers with reports of lowest viewership for the awards emerging right after the conclusion of the event. However Indian government has reportedly shown discontent over the non performance of India at the Oscars, year after year, despite masterpieces like Jab Harry Met Sejal, Tubelight and Firangi made in India.

One of the officials from I&B Ministry who wished to be unnamed, owing to fear of his salary being withhold by his Minister, told,

“It is acceptable and understandable that movies like Newton, Trapped and Mukti Bhawan have been disastrous and bring shame for Indian cinema. However we are shocked when we came to know that Jab Harry Met Sejal failed to pass the first round.”

The I&B Ministry has reportedly taken a strong note of the issue. Owing to failure of Indian movies at the Oscars, the ministry, on Monday announced that the Government of India shall start it’s own awards and aim to set it as a benchmark for other countries. In a official press release on Monday, the ministry stated that, “The I&B Ministry is pleased to announce that India is all set to stage Oscar-level award functions. The event shall be held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in April 2018. The sudden planning of the awards did not give time to invite submissions from filmmakers this year. Owing to such situations, it is hereby decided that the Ministry itself shall award the politicians directly without any nominations. The award is done on the basis of commendable acts done by the politicians in the year 2017.”
